……自今以後，在我這兒出家是不容易的，出家要在這兒經過鍛鍊；鍛鍊要在道場裡先做三年的事情，然後才落髮，落髮再過兩年才可以受戒。今年有人要出家的，因為我以前沒有定這個規矩，今年還可以方便一點，可以通融出家受戒。從今年傳戒以後，就要經過三年的在這兒做工作，看看你是不是一個自私的人，是不是能為公共謀幸福，為大家建立道場，要經過三年，看你可以了才落髮，落髮再經過兩年才可以受戒。
在這兩年期間，要早上拜一個鐘頭願，晚間拜一個鐘頭。經過兩年，把《沙彌律》、《四分律》、《梵網經》這些個經典在這個期間要給我都背得出。要受戒的人不要做旁的事情，就是讀誦這個經典，除讀誦之外就拜願。五十三條小咒，一定要讀熟了，要把它能背得出，才許可受戒……。

From now on, it will not be easy for people to leave the home life at this place. If you want to leave home, you have to be trained. You may become a monk or a nun after you have done community service for three years at a Way-place. You are qualified to receive the complete precepts only after you have been a novice for two years. Since I didn't set up this rule before, those who want to leave home this year still have a chance. I will fulfill your wishes by letting you leave the home life and receive the precepts this year. However, after this year's Precept Transmission, anyone who wants to leave home must first work at the Way-place for three years. We will observe and see whether or not you are selfish. Can you work for the well-being of the temple and maintain the Way-place for others? After three years, if you are qualified, you may leave the home life. You will be allowed to receive the precepts two years after you have left home.
During those two years, you should practice "Universal Bowing" for an hour in the morning and an hour at night. You should memorize The Shramanera Vinaya, The Vinaya in Four Divisions, and the Brahma Net Sutra in this period of time so that you can recite these Sutras from memory. The preceptees need not do anything besides memorizing the Sutras and bowing. You should study the Fifty-three Small Mantras thoroughly as well. You may leave home only after you can recite them from memory. |
