海音調伏身眾神,這一個身眾神叫海音調伏,猶如海潮音一樣來調伏眾生。現獅子吼,令一切眾生都聞聲得度。這一位海音調伏身眾神他得到的境界是大音普覺一切眾生。他發一種大的音聲把人都叫醒了。令歡喜調伏,令一切眾生生大歡喜,把剛強的習氣毛病都改變了,都調伏順受接受他的教化。
要是沒有足的當然不能叫足行神了,沒有身的當然也不能叫身眾神了。這很小很小的,好像一個蟲子也有神的。有的有足的很小的好像螞蛾,那裏邊也有神,在螞蛾裏邊變化成那個身去教化螞蛾。你看那個螞蛾裏邊也有做善的螞蛾、做惡的螞蛾。做善的螞蛾他就願意幫助螞蛾,做惡的螞蛾,他就願意去吃現成的,像土匪一樣去搶去打劫,這是一樣的,不過他的身體小,所以做的事情小而已。你看那個蜜蜂,有多少是做土匪的,到旁的地方把人家的蜜都給偷去了,你知道這個嗎?
淨華嚴醫身眾神,得身如虛空周遍住解脫門。無量威儀身眾神,得示一切眾生諸佛境界解脫門。
淨華嚴髻是這位身眾神的名字,他得到佛的境界,身猶如虛空,周遍法界住。這一種的解脫門是淨華嚴髻他所得到的。
無量威儀是這位身眾神的名字,他得到諸佛指示一切眾生的境界,這種的解脫門。
最勝光嚴身眾伸,得令一切饑乏眾生色力滿足解脫門。淨光香雲身眾神,得除一切眾生煩惱垢解脫門。守護攝持身眾神,得轉一切眾生愚癡業解脫門。普現攝化身眾神,得普於一切世主宮殿中,顯示莊嚴相解脫門。
最勝光嚴是這一位身眾神的名字,這一位身眾神明白佛的境界,得到一種三昧,他能令一切饑乏眾生色力滿足。饑乏也就是貧窮,饑就是沒有飯吃,乏就是疲乏,沒有力量。這兒是說沒有得到法食的饑,沒有得到威神力和神通,所以叫乏。他能令這一類的眾生色力滿足。色就是色身,力就是力量,色身和力量充足,就是身體健康,身體健康了,也就是禪悅為食,法喜充滿。眾生在沒有得到禪定時,就饑乏,沒有得到法喜時,色力就不圓滿。那麼現出來得到禪悅為食,法喜充滿了,所以這個色力也就滿足了,他得到這種解脫門。
淨光香雲是這位身眾神的名字,他得到佛能除一切煩惱垢的境界。煩惱就是染汙,染汙也就是煩惱。你修道若不能把煩惱變了,這菩薩就不現,你必須把煩惱轉成菩提,那麼才會得到清淨。你要不轉成菩提,那就是染汙。尤其出家人,若捨不了這個煩惱垢,真是沒有什麼價值了。所以我們出家人,無論比丘、比丘尼,你不要和人家比脾氣,要和人家比忍辱,不要和人家比煩惱,說你看一看我煩惱有多大,我勝過你!你用煩惱來做事,始終不會成功的,不能成就你的三昧。所以無論做什麼事情,必須要去煩惱,才會生菩提。我們這一位淨光香雲身眾神,他得到這一種解脫門。
這位守護攝持身眾神,守護就是保守而護持,攝持就是攝受一切眾生,這是身眾神的名字。他得到能轉一切眾生的愚癡魔業解脫門。轉就是轉變過來,由煩惱轉成菩提,由愚癡轉成智慧,他轉變一切眾生的愚癡而生出智慧來。你修行切記要會轉變,魔業就是不清淨的業,一些染汙法都叫做魔業。這位守護攝持身眾神,他得到這種解脫門。
普現攝化是這個身眾神的名字,他能普遍在一切世主(佛、菩薩)所居住的宮殿中,顯示出宮殿非常的莊嚴,非常的美麗,令眾生見之而生信心和敬畏心,他得到這種解脫門。
不動光明身眾神,得普攝一切眾生,皆令生清淨善根解脫門。爾時,淨喜境界身眾神,承佛威力,普觀一切身眾神眾,而說頌言。
不動光明是這位身眾神的名字,這位身眾神他修不動光明而得到這個名字,證明他以前是動來著的,他一點一點的修行啊,所以就不動了。動什麼呢?動煩惱,他以前也是常常有煩惱,以後修來修去把煩惱變成智慧了,把煩惱變成菩提了,所以這位身眾神就得到不動光明了。他得到普攝一切眾生,普遍攝化一切眾生,皆令之生清淨的善根。他得到佛的境界,普攝化一切眾生病根,都能生清淨善根,做無漏的善,做究竟的善,做清淨的善。所謂做善是不著善相,做過了就了了,就清淨了,清淨就是乾淨,就是不執著。他得到這種的解脫門。
當爾之時,這位淨喜境界身眾神,他也是承佛威力,普遍觀察一切身眾神眾,用偈頌來說前邊長行的道理。
我憶須彌塵劫前。有佛妙光出興世。
世尊於彼如來所。發心供養一切佛。
「我憶須彌塵劫前」:我想起來了,有無量無量如須彌山那麼多的塵劫。
「有佛妙光出興世」:當時有位佛,名叫妙光,他來到這個世界成佛。
「世尊於彼如來所」:釋迦牟尼世尊,在妙光佛出世的時候,便發了一個大願。
「發心供養一切佛」:他發心供養盡虛空遍法界,十方三世一切諸佛。
如來身放大光明。其光法界靡不充。
眾生遇者心調伏。此照方神之所見。
「如來身放大光明」:如來為什麼會放光明呢?因為如來把一切的習氣毛病都沒有了,一切煩惱也都轉成智慧,轉成菩提,所以如來的身會放大光明。
修道的人,你若有大智慧,身上便會放光,這種光就能照破一切黑暗。和誰有緣,誰就會見到光。凡是見到光的人,都會發菩提心。現在不發心,將來一定會發心的。今生不發心,來生一定會發心。所以佛常常放大光明。
「其光法界靡不充」:佛的光明是盡虛空遍法界的,所有的地方都有佛光。如果我們能把愚癡煩惱轉變為智慧菩提,這時就會見到佛光了。
「眾生遇者心調伏」:眾生見到佛的光明,他的心裏也就調柔順受了,剛強的眾生也不剛強了,愚癡的眾生也不愚癡了,無明煩惱的眾生,也不無明煩惱了,這就叫調伏了,調伏得把你習氣毛病都沒有了。
「此照方神之所見」:這是照方的身眾神,他所明白的解脫門。

The next Multi-bodied Spirit is named Taming and Subduing with Ocean Sound. He uses a sound like the ocean tide to tame and subdue living beings. When living beings hear his Lion's Roar, they obtain liberation. This multi-bodied spirit obtained the liberation door of great sound universally enlightening all living beings, causing them to be happy and subdued. His sound is so great that it wakes everyone up. Living beings are all delighted to hear it. Obstinate beings change their bad habits and faults, and they tamely allow this spirit to teach and transform them.
Those without feet cannot be called spirits of foot travel; those without bodies cannot be called multi-bodied spirits. Spirits are present even among the tiniest creatures and insects. Even among ants, to take the example of tiny creature with legs, there are also spirits who assume the form of ants in order to teach and transform ants. If you take a look at ant colonies, you will find there are ants that do good and ants that commit evil. Good ants help other ants out. Evil ants try to seize the food of other ants, acting like thug; and robbers.
It's all the same. The only difference is that they have tiny bodies, so the things they do are on a tiny scale. As for bees, just think of how many of them are robbers who steal honey from others. Were you aware of what they did?

The Multi-bodied Spirit named Cowl Adorned with Pure Flowers obtained the liberation door of a body that dwells pervasively like empty space.
The Multi-bodied Spirit named Limitless Aspects of Awesome Comportment obtained the liberation door of displaying the state of Buddhas to all living beings.
Commentary:
The Multi-bodied Spirit named Cowl Adorned with Pure Flower obtained the state of the Buddha, the liberation door of a body that dwells pervasively throughout the Dharma Realm like empty space. He obtained that door to liberation.
The Multi-bodied Spirit named Limitless Aspects of Awesome Comportment obtained the liberation door of displaying the states of all the Buddhas to all living beings. He obtained that door to liberation.
Sutra:
The Multi-bodied Spirit named Supreme Light Adornment obtained the liberation door of replenishing the physical strength of all starving and exhausted living beings.
The Multi-bodied Spirit named Pure Light and Clouds of Fragrance obtained the liberation door of ridding all living beings of the filth of afflictions.
The Multi-bodied Spirit named One Who Protects and Gathers In obtained the liberation door of transforming the stupidity and demonic karma of all living beings.
The Multi-bodied Spirit named Universally Manifesting to Gather In and Transform obtained the liberation door of universally manifesting an adorned appearance in the palaces of all world leaders.
Commentary:
The next Multi-bodied Spirit is named Supreme Light Adornment.
He understood a state of the Buddha and obtained the samadhi of the liberation door of replenishing the physical strength of all starving and exhausted living beings. "Starving and exhausted" means being impoverished, having nothing to eat and no strength or energy. Here, "starving" refers to not obtaining the food of Dharma and "exhausted" means lacking the awesome strength of spiritual penetrations. This multi-bodied spirit is replete with physical strength. In other words, he is in good health. Being healthy means being nourished by the bliss of Dhyana and filled with the joy of Dharma. When living beings have not attained Dhyana concentration, they are starving and exhausted. When they have not attained the joy of Dharma, they lack energy and vigor. Now that they are nourished by Dhyana bliss and filled with Dharma joy, they are full of energy. This spirit obtained this door to liberation.
The Multi-bodied Spirit named Pure Light and Clouds of Fragrance obtained the state of the Buddha and the liberation door of ridding all living beings of the filth of afflictions. Afflictions are a form of defilement, and defilement is a form of affliction. In cultivating the Way, if you cannot turn afflictions around, Bodhi cannot manifest. Once you turn afflictions into Bodhi, purity is obtained. Before they are turned into Bodhi, defilement exists. If those who have left the home-life still cannot renounce the filth of afflictions, then there is not much point in their leaving home. Whether you are a Bhikshu or a Bhikshuni, you should not compete with others to see who has the biggest temper. Instead, you should see who has more patience. Don't compete to see who has the most afflictions, saying, "See how great my afflictions are? They're bigger than yours!" If you act on your afflictions, you will never be successful; you will never achieve samadhi. Therefore, no matter what you're doing, you should get rid of afflictions and produce the Bodhi resolve. The Multi-bodied Spirit named Pure Light and Clouds of Fragrance obtained this door to liberation.
The next Multi-bodied Spirit is named One Who Protects and Gathers In because he guards, protects, and gathers in all living beings. He obtained the liberation door of transforming the stupidity and demonic karma of all living beings. Transforming means changing, such as when afflictions are changed into Bodhi and stupidity is changed into wisdom. The stupidity of all living beings can be transformed so that wisdom is produced. Cultivation is a matter of being able to bring about such transformations. Demonic karma refers to impure karma and defiled dharmas. This multi-bodied spirit obtained this door to liberation.
The Multi-bodied Spirit named Universally Manifesting to Gather In and Transform obtained a state of the Buddha and the liberation door of universally manifesting the splendid appearance of the palaces of all world leaders. He causes the palaces of worldly kings and emperors, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas to become extremely beautiful and adorned in appearance, inspiring faith and reverence in all who behold those palaces. This spirit obtained this door to liberation.
Sutra:
The Multi-bodied Spirit named Unmoving Radiance obtained the liberation door of gathering in all living beings and causing them to produce pure good roots.
At that time, the Multi-bodied Spirit named State of Pure Joy received the Buddha's awesome might, contemplated all the multitudes of multi-bodied spirits, and spoke the following verse.
Commentary:
The next Multi-bodied Spirit is named Unmoving Radiance. He got
this name because of his cultivation of unmoving light. This implies that he used to be very restless and active. Little by little, he cultivated until he became unmoving. How was he active? His afflictions were active. He was constantly getting afflicted. Later, through cultivation, his afflictions transformed into wisdom and Bodhi, and thus he obtained unmoving radiance. He obtained the liberation door of pervasively gathering in all living beings and causing them to produce pure good roots. He attained a state of the Buddha of drawing in living beings and causing them to grow pure good roots through doing good deeds without outflows, deeds of ultimate goodness and purity. In other words, they did not get attached to the good deeds they did. Once they did them, they forgot about them. In that way, their good roots were pure and clean, free from attachments. This spirit obtained this door to liberation.
At that time, the Multi-bodied Spirit named State of Pure Joy received the Buddha's awesome might, contemplated all the multitudes of multi-bodied spirits everywhere, and spoke the following verse to rephrase the principles of the preceding prose passage.
Sutra:
I recall that as many eons ago as Sumeru's dustmotes, The Buddha Wondrous Light appeared in the world. The World Honored One in the presence of that Thus Come One, Resolved to make offerings to each and every Buddha.
Commentary:
I recall that as many eons ago as Mount Sumeru's dustmotes, / The Buddha named Wondrous Light appeared in the world and attained Buddhahood. The World Honored One Shakyamuni, in the presence of that Thus Come One, Wondrous Light, made a great vow. He resolved to make offerings to each and every Buddha pervading empty space and the Dharma Realm.
Sutra:
The Thus Come One's body radiated bright light.
His light filled the entire Dharma Realm, missing nowhere.
When living beings encountered it, their minds were tamed.
This is the perception of the Spirit Illumining Directions.
Commentary:
The Thus Come One's body radiated bright light. Why does the Thus Come One's body give off light? It is because he has gotten rid of all his bad habits and faults. He has changed all his afflictions into wisdom and Bodhi, so his body shines brightly. When a cultivator attains great wisdom, he will emit light which dispels all darkness, and those with whom he has affinities will see that light. Having seen the light, they will eventually resolve their minds. Even if they don't make the resolve in this life, they will in a future life. After being illuminated by the Buddha's bright light, they are bound to resolve their minds. That's why the Buddha constantly emits bright light. His light filled the entire Dharma Realm, missing nowhere. The Buddha's light reaches to the ends of empty space and the Dharma Realm. Every place has the Buddha's light. If we could change our stupidity and afflictions into wisdom and Bodhi, we would see the Buddha's light.
When living beings encountered it, their minds were tamed. When living beings see the Buddha's light, their minds become gentle and compliant. Obstinate living beings are no longer obstinate. Stupid living beings are no longer stupid. Living beings with heavy ignorance and afflictions are no longer plagued by ignorance and afflictions. They are tamed, so that their bad habits and faults disappear. This is the perception of the Multi-bodied Spirit Illumining Directions. He understood this door to liberation.
