…我們出家人一定要嚴整威儀，肅恭齋法。嚴整威儀，我們行路必須要兩手當胸，不可以一個手這樣子，一個手晃晃悠悠的，這一點威儀教相也沒有，這麼隨隨便便的。見著人一定要行八敬法，要合起掌來，講話眼睛都看地下，不可以眼睛望著對方。不論他是男人、女人，都不可以這麼眼汪汪地望，都要合乎戒律。
尤其先受戒的比丘、比丘尼，要給後人做榜樣。不能你們就躲懶偷安，也不上殿也不過堂，就以為自己是老資格了。我告訴你，萬佛城沒有老資格，都是在學習的。你們擺架子到其他的道場去擺去，萬佛城沒有你們擺架子的地方。不論你比丘、比丘尼，對誰都要和氣，對誰都要和藹。不能說我是比丘尼，就看不起沙彌尼，拿沙彌尼當奴隸那麼看，這是不可以的。

Left-home people should have solemn and dignified deportment and respectfully observe the method of obtaining food. We should place our hands in front of our chests when we walk. We should not swing our arms as we walk, for that shows a lack of deportment. We cannot be sloppy. When we meet people, we should place our palms together and practice the Eight Dharmas of Respect. When we speak with people, we should look at the ground instead of staring at them. Whether they are men or women, we should accord with the precepts and not gaze at them.
Bhikshus and Bhikshunis who were ordained earlier should be models for later generations. You should not be lazy, thinking that you are a senior who does not have to attend ceremonies in the Buddha Hall or eat with others in the Dining Hall. Let me tell you, there are no seniors at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas. Everyone is still learning here. If you want to put on airs, go to another Way-place; the City is not a place for arrogance. You ought to be cordial to others, whether you are a Bhikshu or a Bhikshuni. You cannot say, "I am a Bhikshuni, so I look down on Shramanerikas and regard them as slaves." That is unacceptable. |
