Community Mourns the Loss of Student Jerry Huang

Around 5 p.m. on Friday, May 26, the Boys School lost an outstanding student, Jerry Huang. The school and the whole community were saddened. Many students, teachers, Sanghans and other residents of CTTB recited the Buddha's name for him at CTTB. A tree was planted next to the boys' basketball court in memory of Jerry, and a scholarship has been estab­lished in Jerry's name.

The Boys School held a memorial ceremony on June 2 that was very well attended by teachers, students and alumni. Many people also attended Jerry's funeral at the Rebirth Hall in CTTB on June 5. After the cremation, Jerry's parents and closest friends were overjoyed to find quite a few green and blue flower-like sharira (bone relics) in the ashes, an auspicious sign according to the Buddhist tradition.

Jerry, a 10^th  grader, came from Taiwan four and a half years ago. He was an excellent student and was well respected and liked by all students and teachers. His death was indeed a great loss to the school but it also taught us a lesson in "impermanence". Let's all wish Jerry the best. May he be reborn in the Western Pure Land.

The following students in the Girls Schools received the President's Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement:

Grade 6: Nancy Chu, Aryatara Kandahsari, Anna Lee, Lillian Sun

Three 6^th grade girls received the President's Award for Outstanding Educational Improvement: Meghan Chandler, Ariana Ferrusca, Camille Pruitt.
