阮氏寬原籍越南，法名果圖，定居加拿大，26歲時有過一次起死回生的經驗。那時七孔流血，醫生已證實死亡，只因胸口還暖故未入殮。死後十二小時居然奇蹟般地復活過來。她娓娓道出了這次的經歷。
當果圖的靈魂離開身體時有兩位仙女引領她到天宮。天門外的一條龍很高興，拔出一根龍鬚來逗她；接著兩隻麒麟走來，她跑過去撫弄。忽然間她聽到天母娘娘喊她：「孩子妳回來了！」天母很莊嚴；天宮更是富麗堂皇。她跪下後聽到人世間的聲音。「妳回去救救妳父母吧！」天母如是說著。她本不想再回凡間，天母洞知她的心意，便說：「不要緊的，妳只要努力修行便不會墮落，有一天妳會回來的。」正遲疑時，天境消失了。
一個月後果圖病好多了。一天夢見有人叫她上廟禮佛，醒來後她問母親及鄰居，但沒有人知道哪兒有廟宇。晚上她又夢見那人帶她到一座寺廟，佛殿中央是釋迦牟尼佛，後園池塘中立著觀音像。那時她根本不知道什麼是佛菩薩，醒後依照夢境指示竟找到跟夢裡一模一樣的寺廟。從此她潛心佛教持長齋，病也完全痊癒了。
1979年離越定居加拿大卡城；1986年她參與了華嚴寺的成立；1987年夏上人來為華嚴寺開光。果圖居士知道上人是位大善知識，便皈依上人，從此護持道場。

Nguyen Thi Phan was born in Vietnam and now resides in Canada. Her Dharma name is Guo Thu. One day when she was 26 years old, blood came out of all her apertures and the life force ebbed from her body. The doctors were helpless and her family prepared for her funeral. The only thing that kept her family from placing her body in the casket was the warmth in her chest. After being "dead" for twelve hours, Guo Thu miraculously came back to life. This is the story of her trip to heaven after her death.
When Guo Thu left her body, she saw two heavenly maidens take her to the heavenly palace. There was a dragon outside of the gate. The dragon seemed happy to see her, as if she were an old pal. He then pulled out a hair from his moustache and started tickling her. Two unicorns came by and she caressed one of them. Then she heard the voice of the mother of heaven, "You have come home, my child!" She immediately knelt down before her. The mother of heaven was incredibly beautiful and the splendor of the heaven told her, "You should go back and help cross over your parents; they need your help." Guo Thu did not want to go back. Noticing her reluctance, the mother of heaven said, "It's all right. As long as you cultivate, you won't fall." As Guo Thu's mind was wavering, the scene
disappeared in front of her.
One month latter, Guo Thu's health got better. One night, she dreamt of a person telling her to go to a temple. The next day, she asked her mother and the people around where she could find a temple. No one knew where. That night she dreamt of the same person she saw the night before. This time the person took her from the her place to a temple where there was a statue of Shakyamini Buddha in the middle of the Buddha Hall, and a statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva in the middle of a pond in the backyard. The next day after she awoke, she followed the instructions from her dream and found a temple identical to the one in her dream. She began to study Buddhism and became a vegetarian. Not long after, she totally recovered from her illness.
In 1979, Guo Thu left Vietnam and went to Calgary, Canada. She took part in establishing Avatamsaka Monastery in 1986. In the summer of 1987, Venerable Master Hua came to Avatamsaka Monastery to hold the opening ceremony. Guo Thu then realized that the Venerable Master Hua was a good advisor. She took refuge with the Venerable Master and became a supporter of the Way-place.
