有鑒於台海兩岸局勢緊張，萬佛聖城特於一九九六年二月十九日至二十三日（農曆春節初一至初五）舉行「消災吉祥暨大悲法會」。又於三月八日至十日舉行「大悲法會」全日持誦大悲神咒，並將功德迴向台灣海峽兩岸。

宣公上人圓寂前，曾數次指出，現在是三災來臨的時代，要想消災免難，最好的辦法就是多多持誦（大悲咒），自然能夠遇難呈祥，逢凶化吉。盼望蓮友們多多持誦（大悲神咒），並廣勸親友共同持誦，以期災星退度福星臨。

Due to the tense political situation between mainland China and Taiwan, the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas (CTTB) held a Dharma Session for reciting the Great Compassion and Disaster Eradicating Auspicious Mantras from February 19 to 23 (the first five days of the lunar year). Again from March 8 to 10, CTTB held a Great Compassion Dharma Session during which the Great Compassion Spiritual Mantra was recited all day long and the merit was dedicated to peace between the two shores of the Taiwan Strait.

Before his completion of stillness, the Venerable Master Hua often said that the threefold disasters (of fire, water, and wind) are impending upon us, and that the best method for averting them is to recite the Great Compassion Mantra as much as possible. Reciting the mantra naturally transforms difficulties and disasters into auspicious situations. Friends in the Dharma, we hope you will vigorously recite the Great Compassion Mantra and urge all your friends and relatives to do so as well, so that the disasters may turn into blessings!
