How Can I Clean Up My Mind?

我如何清理我的思緒呢?以初學而言,必須停止我好怒之習氣。當我生氣時就污 染了我的心思。所以我必須停止動不動就發怒的習慣,而且要有耐心。

有一個辦法,就是念佛。念佛如何對我起了作用呢?一方面,念佛幫助我消除今 世或前世所造之惡業,而且讓我冷靜下來,讓我不打妄想;打妄想就是染污我的念頭。

第二個辦法,就是打坐。我想這個方法對我來說是比較有效的。在我的經驗中, 這種方法比較困難。當我打坐的時候,我保持我的念頭在「定」中,當我專心一致時,就不會打妄想。打坐對我而言,就像睡覺,因為打坐使我恢復精神,就跟睡覺 的效果一樣。不過我比較喜歡打坐。

第三個方法,就是參加法會。當我參加法會時,對我而言好比是懺悔。而且參加 法會不會讓我有散亂心;心一散亂,妄想就來。

最有效,最佳之法,就是多做善事。例如當我看到年長的人要過馬路時,我去幫 他,那我就是在做好事,但是我不能說出來:喔!我在行善啊!因為當我在做善事時,我不能期望任何回報。


How can I clean up my mind? Well, for starters, I have to stop getting mad so easily. When I lose my temper, it dirties my mind. So I have to stop getting mad so easily and have better patience.

One way of cleansing my mind is to recite the Buddha’s name. How does reciting the Buddha’s name help me clean up my mind? Well, for one, it clears away some of the bad karma that I created in the present life or the lives before. Reciting the Buddha’s name also calms me down so that I do not have false thinking. False thinking also dirties my mind.

A second way I can clear my mind is meditation. I think this method is more effective. From my experience, this way is even harder. When I meditate it keeps my mind in samadhi. When I am concentrating, I cannot have false thinking. Meditating to me is like sleeping, because when I meditate it refreshes me just the same as when I sleep. I prefer meditating.

A third way I can cleanse my mind is by attending ceremonies. Attending ceremonies helps me to reprent. It also helps keep me from having a scattered mind that has false thoughts.
