只在尋常日用中;

At 10:00 a.m. on September 24, immediately after
the completion of the Eighth Transmission of the Threefold Platform of
Precepts, Elder Dharma Master Mingyang was invited to deliver a Dharma
talk from the High Seat in the front of the Jeweled Hall of Ten
Thousand Buddhas. His speech was as follows:
It is this seeing and hearing; hearing is not
seeing nor hearing. At ordinary times, the eyes and the ears surpass
their counterparts. The weaver’s shuttle does not attach to even a
single strand of thread, and it sews patterns that are not found in the
heavens or on earth. All of you superior members of the Sangha: Know
that the six sense objects are neither good nor bad in themselves; good
or bad depends on whether one’s six senses are defective. If one’s eyes
have cataracts, then naturally one sees red flowers in empty space. If
the eyes are defective, the states will become distorted as well. Once
one gets enlightened, divine light will shine forth, and even though
one encounters various states, all day long there is no state to be
faced. All forms are none other than the Buddha’s forms, and all sounds
are none other than the Buddha’s sounds. Not only will one not be
turned by states, one will be able to turn states around. After all,
why are we turned by states? Raising his staff, he said, ‘Do you see
it?’ He asked again, ‘Do you hear it?’
If you are able to recognize, from the example
of
the staff, the seeing that is apart from seeing and the hearing that is
apart from hearing, then, the message of turning the state comes forth.
Now there are Dharma protectors who have come to the temple to request
Dharma and to make a meal offering to the Sangha, in order to cross
over the deceased and cause them to be reborn in the Land of Ultimate
Bliss. They wish that, with this single thought of filiality, their
ancestors would be reborn in the Land of Bliss. In particular, they
extend their invitation to me, a mountain monk, to perform this matter
on their behalf. What do you think I am going to say?” After pausing
for a moment, he said,
Basically, the
Buddhadharma does not have that
many principles;
It lies within everyday life.
It is “this” that eats and wears clothes.
Who knows and recognizes this master?
