訃聞
In Memoriam

法界佛教總會創辦人、妙覺山萬佛聖城開山祖師暨溈仰宗第九代嗣法傳人上宣下化老和尚，於西曆一九九五年六月七日（農曆乙亥年五月初十），安詳示寂於美國洛杉磯。世壽七十有八。法界佛教總會眾弟子等，恪遵師教，於萬佛聖城及各分支道場舉行大方廣佛華嚴經及念佛法會四十九永日。敬擇西曆一九九五年七月二十六日至七月二十八日，每日上午七時起，於萬佛聖城舉行三天追思大會暨荼毗典禮──七月二十八日。（花圈懇辭，奠儀轉作弘法、教育、譯經之用。）謹此訃

The founder of the Dharma Realm Buddhist Association, the Venerable Master Hsuan Hua (Xuanhua), passed into the stillness on June 7, 1995, in Los Angeles. He was seventy-seven years old. The Venerable Master established the Sagely City of Ten Thousand Buddhas at Wonderful Enlightenment Mountain and was the Ninth Patriarch of the Wei-Yang School of Chan Buddhism. The Master’s disciples of the Dharma Realm Buddhist Association, in respectful adherence to his instructions, have convened a forty-nine day Dharma assembly for the all-day recitation of the Avatamsaka Sutra and the name of Amitabha Buddha at the Sagely City of Ten Thousand Buddhas and each of the associated Wayplaces. Moreover, they have reverently selected July 26 through 28 (beginning 7 am daily) for holding a great three-day-long memorial assembly at the Sagely City of Ten Thousand Buddhas. Cremation will take place on July 28. (People are sincerely requested not to offer flower wreaths or bouquets. Contributions will be used to propagate the Dharma, for education, and for translation of Sutras.)
