問：六道中，除了人之外，也都可以成佛嗎？
答：不論哪一道，都可以成佛。但必須要經過人道，才可以成佛，不是由畜生直接就可以成佛的。從眾生到成佛的這條路上，人道是個最重要的衙門。²
問：居士如何「斷欲去愛」？什麼是欲？什麼是愛？
答：你在家人都不懂了，我一個出家人怎麼懂？我已經把這些事情都忘了，你卻來問我！這好比造房子一樣的，「譬彼築室，問路人。路人焉知築室工程進展如何？」你應該要問木匠，你隨便問個路上的人，那他怎麼知道呢？
問：無欲才能修佛法，但世界若無欲望，即不能進步。請問凡人應如何兩者兼顧？
答：既然說有欲望才能進步，那進步又是什麼？進步又能怎麼樣？又有什麼好處呢？

Q: Can beings in the six destinies other than humans also become Buddhas?
A: Beings in any destiny can achieve Buddhahood, but they must pass through the human destiny before they can become Buddhas. Animals cannot directly become Buddhas. On the path from being a living being to Buddhahood, the human destiny is a most important stage.
Q: How can laypeople "cut off desire and get rid of love"? What is desire? What is love?
A: If you laypeople don't understand, how can I, a left-home person, understand? I have already forgotten about those matters, and yet you ask me! It's like wanting to build a house and inquiring from a passerby.How can a passerby know the procedure for building a house?You should ask a carpenter. If you casually ask a person on the street, how would he know?
Q: To practice the Buddhadharma, we must have no desires. But if no one had any ambitions, there would be no progress in the world. How can a common person resolve this dilemma?
A: You say there can be progress only if people have ambitions. Well, what is progress? What has progress brought us? What advantages are there in progress?
