The 1994 Summer Program was held from July 5th to the 15th at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas. Over seventy boys and girls from Taiwan, Canada, Malaysia, China and the United States participated. It has always been the wish of the Venerable Master to promote sound education. The Master's idea of education isn't an ordinary education, which only teaches students knowledge from textbooks or skills for making a living; rather, he wants students to understand the fundamental principles of being a person and managing business, and be able to apply them in daily life, so that they can activate their inherent wisdom and ability. Then they will act with propriety and integrity, and become useful citizens when they grow up.
Principal Gan, director of the Summer Program at the Boys' School, said this year many parents registered early, hoping their children would be able to come to the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, receive the transforming influence of the Dharma, experience life at the City, see and join in the Buddhist ceremonies in the Buddha Hall and dining hall, practice meditation, and make friends. Because of a series of well-planned activities, students all had a great time.
The Dharma Master in charge of the Summer Program at the Girls' School said that this year's program consisted primarily of an introduction to Buddhism , with various interesting courses to help students develop their inherent wisdom.
In the quiet and beautiful surroundings of the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, the two-week program passed by busily and happily. Grateful students looked forward to coming back next year. Several students applied to enroll for long-term study. Many parents hope the schools will announce the program even earlier next year, so they can be sure to participate.
