At noon on December 9, Mr. and Mrs. Rui-ping Zeng, and Ms. Meng-hua Zhu arrived in the United States from Taiwan, and Ms. Zhang Mei-pu came later. They will be volunteer teachers, helping others without taking a salary. This is the ideal promoted by Ven. Master Hua at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas. Mr. Zeng, a teacher who has affinities with the Buddha, has a son in Developing Virtue High School. He said, "In a good education, it is important to instill the values of integrity and virtue. Acquiring knowledge is not hard. But if a student studies without fostering a sense of integrity, he will easily be corrupted. The City is a good environment to grow up in." He urges more people to join in the never-ending work of teaching.
Having studied in a Buddhist academy, Ms. Zhu thinks we must bring the Dharma into our lives. She hopes to contribute all she has learned to benefit more people through the Dharma. While teaching, she also wishes to study at Dharma Realm Buddhist University, so her learning and teaching can enhance each other.
Ms. Zhang, who has several decades of teaching experience, hopes more parents and children will come to these pure grounds to nurture an open-minded sense of equality, and set the foundation for a pure and just personality. Then one can help oneself and the next generation to walk upon a great, bright path. A Catholic for thirty-six years, she comments that giving up her twenty-one year teaching position to become a volunteer teacher at the City has been the most fortunate event in her life, and the surest decision she has made!
