(Announcement) At the Sagely City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, two of the large wall murals facing south on the west side of the Buddhahall has been completed. The finished murals are of the Western King Broad Eyes and the Southern King Increasing and Growing. Both images stand about twenty feet in height and are extremely stately and majestic.
The artist, Professor Yang Jyan-you estimates that each wall mural would take approximately forty working days to complete. Therefore, within about six months the murals of the Four Heavenly Kings will be complete. "Even in Mainland China there are no murals of the Four Heavenly Kings as large as these," asserted Professor Yang.
In his youth, Professor Yang was not Buddhist, but he had already made Buddhist Art the goal of his life's effort. He spent a period of seven years traveling all over China to perfect his practice in copying famous murals. Professor Yang spent four years painting a large mural of over two hundred square feet for Hu Gwo Fa Lwun (Dharma Wheel for Protecting the Country) Monastery in Shen Yang. He also carved and painted seventeen Bodhisattvas and Heavenly King images for that Monastery. Of all the faculty in the eight major Art Academies on Mainland China, Professor Yang is the only one who works in the area of Buddhist art and practice and the renovation of Monasteries.
