【臺北訊】「中華民國佛教醫事人員聯合會」將在各大醫療院推動「臨終助念」服務,在臨終前一直到死後八小時,由助念人員誦經與助念佛號,在佛力的加被下,眾罪消滅,善根增長,使臨命終的病患身無病苦,一心正念,稱如來名,求生淨土,生極樂國。
目前,設立佛堂,甚至有「助念室」,可以開始這項服務的醫院,包括臺大醫院、臺北榮總、花蓮慈濟、臺北忠孝、慈濟高雄分院、長庚高雄分院、榮總高雄分院等,而國泰醫院也有佛學杜團在默默行善。

(Taipei) The Association of Buddhist Medical Personnel of the Republic of China will be offering the service of Reciting the Buddha's Name For Dying Patients in major hospitals. From before death to eight hours after death, people will recite Buddhist Sutras as well as the Buddha's name to help eradicate the patient's offenses and increase his good roots. With the Buddhas' aid, a dying patient will be free of illness and pain. By singlemindedly maintaining proper mindfulness, and praising the Thus Come One's name, the patient who seeks rebirth in the Land of Ultimate Bliss will attain it.
Currently, these hospitals are equipped with a Buddha-hall or recitation room, and may start the service right away: Hospital of National Taiwan University, Taipei Veterans' Hospital, Hualien Tsz-Ji (Merciful Rescue) Hospital, Taipei Jung-Syau (Loyalty and Filiality) Hospital, Tsz-Ji Hospital in Kaohsiung, Chang-Gung Hospital in Kaohsiung, Veterans' Hospital in Kaohsiung and others. Taipei Gwo-Tai Hospital also has a Buddhist Association which is quietly doing good deeds.
