[Announcement:] Several new programs at Dharma Realm Buddhist University (DRBU) have been enthusiastically received by students. Professor Jyan-you Yang, a renowned artist from mainland China, is teaching a class in Traditional Buddhist Drawing. His skill is such that he can often produce a complete drawing in one stroke. However, he teaches students the basics first. Patiently nurturing their interest, he covers the difficult aspects of drawing Buddhist images. He has devoted himself completely to his work, not saving any strength for himself.
The Chinese Language Program is directed by the past Chairman of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh, Professor Richard Fu-sen Yang. Dr. Yang is the epitome of a benevolent elderly gentleman. Not only talented in Chinese calligraphy, he also has an extensive literary background, and can eloquently express himself in both Chinese and English. In his classes, he uses an open-minded and lively attitude to bring out the wisdom of the students. He is deeply convinced that learning should be a happy experience, not a painful one. Although the majority of the students are members of the Sangha, there are also quite a few laypeople, including members of the Ukiah community. Dr. Yang has ample educational experience, having been a faculty member of American and European universities for over thirty years. With his unique teaching style, solid foundation in Chinese literature, and vibrant humor, his classes are spirited and full of charm. And because he takes the class seriously, the students have made clear progress.
