中華民國總統府資政，前立法院院長梁肅戎先生，於七月二十九日拜會宣化上人，並參訪萬佛聖城。梁肅戎資政這次是應美東華人學術聯誼會的邀請，於今年六月底到紐約發表專題演講。返台前，梁資政先到加州渡假，並於七月二十九日到柏林根市國際譯經學院拜會宣化上人，接着又前往萬佛聖城的萬佛殿上香。
梁資政這是第二次拜會宣化上人，他說自己雖然不是佛教徒，但生長於佛教家庭。幼時每逢初一、十五，便隨母親吃齋。
這幾年，梁資政有幾位同僚、朋友相繼往生，包括立法院的老委員。梁資政當時以院長之職，為往生的老立委覆蓋國旗，心裡很有無常之感，所以對佛教教義頗有些體會。
七月二十九日當晚，梁資政在萬佛聖城妙語堂，對聖城四眾介紹中華民國現況。梁資政認為，中國終究要統一，然而以何種方式統一，就主客觀因素而言，很難掌握。但中華民國和大陸統一的前提是，大陸放棄共產主義，他希望共產黨逐漸解體。梁資政對目前中華民國國內的統獨之爭，感到很憂慮。他指出：「重要的是，不要給中共藉口，惹起戰爭危機。」對於人生意義的看法，梁資政以一句話涵括：「以有限的身體，對無限的人生，在百年內，對國家、社會發揮最大的貢獻。」基於這樣的觀點，梁資政對於宣化上人在西方極力提高道德標準、重整道德，感到很敬佩。他也希望，未來能有人繼續發揚光大上人的心願。

On July 29th, Mr. Su-Rung Lyang, an advisor to the President of the Republic of China and the ex-chairman of the Legislative Yuan, visited the Venerable Master Hua, and also the Sagely City of Ten Thousand Buddhas.
National Advisor Lyang had been invited by the Eastern-American Chinese Academic Association to deliver a speech at end of June in New York. Before he returned to Taiwan, the National Advisor went on vacation in California, and visited Venerable Master Hua at the International Translation Institute in Burlingame. Right afterwards he made a journey to the Sagely City of Ten Thousand Buddhas to offer incense in Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas.
This was Advisor Lyang's second visit to the Venerable Master. He explained that although he is not a Buddhist, he was brought up in a Buddhist family. As a child, he followed his mother's example and observed the vegetarian fast on the first and fifteenth day of each lunar month. In the past few years, several of his colleagues and friends have passed away, including some old acquaintances in Legislative Yuan. As the Chairman of the Yuan, he took part in the ceremony to cover their bodies with the National Flag, and was deeply impressed with the impermanence of life. So he has some understanding of the Buddha's teaching.
In the evening of July 29th, Advisor Lyang briefly introduced the present situation of the Republic of China to the four-fold assembly at the City.
Advisor Lyang believes that the unification of China will ultimately happen. However, it is very difficult to predict exactly how it will take place, either from subjective or objective points of view. But the unification of the Republic of China and mainland China is contingent on the mainland's renunciation of Communism. He is hopeful that the Communist Party will gradually disintegrate. Advisor Lyang worries a great deal about the current controversy over the unification or independence of the two Chinas. He pointed out, "Most of all, don't give the Chinese Communists any excuse to cause a crisis of war."
Asked to give his view of the meaning of life, Advisor Lyang summed it up in one sentence, "With a limited physical body, confronting the unlimited potential of human life, during a hundred years, one makes the greatest contribution to the country and the world." From this perspective, Advisor Lyang very much respects the Venerable Master Hua's advocation in the West of the upgrading of morality and virtue. He also hopes that in the future there will be people who can carry out and cause the Venerable Master's vows to flourish.
