Buddhist News

Buddhists in San Francisco recently attended a Seven-Day Meditation Session at the Buddhist Lecture Hall, while in Hong Kong local Buddhists performed the Medicine Master Tathagata’s Repentance Ceremony at the Buddhist Lecture Hall, 31 Wong Nei Chong Road, 11th Floor, Happy Valley, Hong Kong.

NEW YEARS CELEBRATION

On February 15th 1970, the Buddhist Lecture Hall celebrated the advent of the Chinese New Year. Buddhists from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area gathered at 10:30 to participate in a Great Offering Ceremony, followed by a vegetarian feast. Approximately sixty people attended. After lunch the assembly of bhiksus, bhiksunis, upasakas, upasikas, guests and friends again gathered to hear the Master Hsuan Hua explain The Wonderful Dharma Lotus Flower Sutra.

The Buddhist Lecture Hall was pleased by the presence of two guests from Berkeley, Professor Lewis Lancaster, from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, and Professor David Keightley, from the Department of History.

At another ceremony held later in the day, precepts were administered and vows were made by practicing Buddhists.

NO FIXED DHARMA

Again I See Bodhisattvas,
Dwelling in Forests, Emitting Light,
Relieving the Suffering of the Hells,
And Leading Men to the Buddha Path.

Thus spoke Maitreya Bodhisattva to the Bodhisattvas, Pratyeka-buddhas, Arhats, gods, men, dragons, ghosts1 spirits, and others, who were in the assembly during the speaking of The Wonderful Dharma Lotus Flower Sutra. The Sino–American Buddhist Association wishes to follow the example of these Bodhisattvas and this spring will move to the forests, either to Minnesota, where the Association already owns 200 acres of land, or to New York where land is presently being sought. When relocation has been completed, preparations will be made for this summer’s Sutra Study and Meditation Session.
