Amitabha, The Buddha of Limitless Light and Life THREE WEEKS OF CH’AN AND RECITATION, 1976-77 Gold Mountain Monastery held its annual winter sessions beginning December 17th and ending January 7th. Two weeks of intensive ch'an began each morning at 2:45 AM and continued until 12 PM. Alternate walking and sitting meditation, instructional talks by members of the sangha, instructional talks by the Venerable Master Hsuan-hua, and evening lectures on the Avatamsaka Sutra were all part of the daily schedule. In the midst of a week of recitation of the name of Amitabha Buddha, the birthday of that venerable one from the Western Land was celebrated. On that special day, January 6th, the great assembly bowed to the Buddhas, chanted the Buddha's name, made offerings and heard the Dharma. ****************************************** VAJRA BODHI SEA STAFF |
