|
Composed by the Venerable Translated by Disciple Bhiksu Heng Yo Illustrated by a Student of Prajna continued from issue 50 |
The Master undertook the responsibilities of water boy, and fully repenting past karma, volunteered to be the gardener as well. It was necessary for him to examine each vegetable plant to see whether it was well hoed or not, fertilized or not, ready to be transplanted or not. He banked up the plants and braced those, which had fallen over. He irrigated the vegetable garden with water sanctified by the Great Compassion Mantra, so that the vegetables would quickly become insentient and therefore suitable for food. The Gatha says: He toiled in service attending to the tasks of vegetable gardener; An exemplar of the regulations, he rid himself of dullness. You should know that as of today, a teacher of gods and men Is
hard at labor in Ku Shen mountain's ancient vegetable patch. |
