PART FIVE

A BODHISATTVA BORN INTO THE WORLD

The next year, between three and five AM, on the 30th day of the seventh lunar month, Mrs. Yen went into labor and gave birth to the Master.  He entered the world in a caul (a state had only by eighth stage Bodhisattvas) which caused his mother alarm. Thinking that there was no hope for her ever bearing children again, she died in grief. The next day, the family was visited by an old medicine peddler who, upon opening up the mass of flesh, removed a male child. These are the circumstances surrounding the birth of the Master Yun.

The Gatha says:

Originally he came from the future his birth was without creation

From the court of the Tusita Heaven the Master Yun descended,

Instructed by Maitreya Bodhisattva to bring forth the Buddha's Dharma.

Sakyamuni predicted he would save the schools repute.
