Two Poems at the Pool of
the Bell on Mt. T’ai Po

Still blue water

Misty like smoke

Joining far-off waves of light

That flash before the eyes

It seems the pool is shaken

By clouds in empty space

Hanging constant

A bright bell

Pouring in clear heaven.

Through invisible droplets

Leaks a distant trace of heaven

Sinking dark blue shadows

Before a jade-green line of peaks

About how deep is the cold pool?

Try and find it out

Take the big dipper too

And hang it in a basket
