In the year that the Master landscaped Western Bliss Gardens with pine, papaya, and bamboo trees, a severe typhoon hit Hong Kong and the winds ripped out the newly-planted trees. At that time the Master laid down an ultimatum: “As long as I am in Hong Kong, there will not be any more typhoons. What happens when I leave Hong Kong is another matter, but as long as I am here, no more destructive storms will hit here.”

After that, for more than ten years while the Master remained in Hong Kong, not a single typhoon struck the city. Time and again typhoon warnings were displayed, but each time the storm either died out or changed course. The immunity of the city was dramatically evidenced when on several occasions storms beat a straight course for Hong Kong, only to veer off suddenly from as close as fifteen miles offshore.
