The Dharma Realm Buddhist Association and the Dharma Realm Buddhist University have published many Buddhist books, but these books aren’t perfect yet. From now on, no matter who the speaker or author is, all books must be examined carefully and everybody must confirm that there are no errors before the book is printed.
Henceforth, everything at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas will be done in a democratic manner: by means of selfless, honest and correct procedures. We should try to improve upon and advance towards what is true, good and fair. The books we print should no longer have any errors. If there are errors, this will affect all of us and we’ll all be criticized. I hope everyone will try hard to do a perfect job.
The Sutras were personally spoken by Shakyamuni Buddha. Not a word can be changed, and not a word can be omitted. Otherwise, there will be no merit but only offenses. The virtuous ones of old said,
依文解義,三世佛冤;
離經一字,即同魔說。
Explaining the meaning too literally
Grieves the Buddhas of the three times;
Yet deviating from the Sutra by a single word
Makes it the same as demonic discourse.
So you know that translating Sutras is not easy. I hope you all will try your best to translate the Sutras flawlesslyn a manner which completely matches the Buddha’s intentionnd circulate the Sutras throughout the world so that the readers can benefit from the Dharma.
